Darwin and Dummies
In this article, the Gallup polling company asked people whether or not they believed in evolution, and then correlated the answers to their religious fervour and education level. (OK, now go click the link and read the poll. Seriously, you need to!) The report can be summed up as follows: Only 40% of Americans believe in evolution, regular church attendees are most likely to disbelieve evolution, and those with postgraduate education are most likely to believe evolution. Now I am certain that someone like Richard Dawkins will jump on a soapbox, proclaiming that
- Only the ignorant refuse evolution,
- Religious people are most likely to refuse evolution
- Therefore, religeous people are ignorant.
Just for a moment, I would like to suggest an equally useful syllogism.
- Fools are useless in society except for entertainment
- The Bible calls athiests fools (and by default that includes evolutionists) (Psalm 14:1 & 53:1)
- Therefore evolutionists and athiests are useful only for their entertainment value!
The poll verifies what most serious Christians already know, that universities across the continent have been renowned for their evolutionary zeal for decades. See the recent anti-Semetic incidents at York University if you need documentation and make the link to evolution yourself. However, it raised an interesting point. According to the poll, 24% of people who attend church weekly believe in evolution! What?? How do you go to church weekly and still not be convinced about the truth of Creation? Could it be that the “church” they attend has ceased to fulfill its Biblical role? Or is it a case of “weakly” obeying the Scriptures?
Romans 1:22-23 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
